Music is a medium that connects people all over the world. It transcends cultural and social barriers and speaks to the basic element of human existence, the heart. NO one knows this better than two California Bay Area musicians: vocalist Ella Pennewell and saxophonist Julien Vaught who now have been making music for over forty years playing for sold out audiences across the country. Vocalist Ella Pennewell who first discovered her love of music at the age of four began her career forming two groups called "The Natural Sounds" and "Phase 4" who performed at all the hottest spots in the Bay Area and surrounding region. Eventually Pennewell embarked on a solo opening for such blues greats as: Bill "Summertime" Hemmons, Rufus Thomas, Jessie James, and Bobby Blue Bland. A high demand for this community, performing for countless commercially sponsored events. Such events include: Marriot Hotel in Marco Island, Florida, Golden Gate Park Blues Festival in San Francisco, California and countless other events. Pennewell has performed the National Anthem backed by a children's choir, with whom she taught to sing in her spare time, for the Golden State Warriors. A hallmark in the career of this remarkable performer came during the Monterey Blues Festival in which she was compared to the likes of pop diva, Tina Turner during her rousing rendition of "Proud Mary." The crowd exhibited what could only be described as pandemonium as they beseeched an encore and she happily obliged. Pennewell's soulful voice has captured the hearts of many, or as one reporter put it, "She has the ability to make you smile with her tremendous stage presence, cry with every one of her melodic blues tones and bare a smile that could warm the coldest of hearts. That's the mark of a great PERFORMER."
Ella has just released her new CD along with Mr. Julien Vaught. Titled "THAT'S THE WAY IT IS"
